Gumtree buying tips
- Ask about access at the seller's property: Is the item upstairs? Ground floor? Does the seller have a driveway or is it on-street parking? This affects loading time and our quote.
- Check the item's condition: Unlike eBay, Gumtree doesn't have a formal dispute resolution system. Ask the seller for clear photos and confirm there are no hidden faults before we collect.
- Be ready for quick sales: Good Gumtree deals go fast, sometimes within hours. If you find something you want, call us immediately with the basics and we can often give a rough quote over the phone to help you commit.
- Cash or bank transfer: Most Gumtree sellers prefer cash. If you're paying cash on collection, we can pay the seller on your behalf (you transfer the amount to us beforehand). Discuss this when booking.
Gumtree Collection FAQ
Yes, we offer evening collections up to 8pm and full weekend availability. Saturday is actually our busiest Gumtree collection day since that's when most sellers are home and listings are fresh. If a seller is only free Sunday morning, we can accommodate that too, just let us know the window when booking.
This happens more often than you'd think, Gumtree listings aren't always precise. If the item is significantly larger or heavier than described and requires extra help or equipment, we'll call you before loading to discuss any adjustment. For minor differences (e.g. a "2-seater" that's actually a compact 3-seater), we'll handle it at no extra cost. Our pricing is based on the volume and weight you describe, so please be as accurate as possible.

Multi-stop runs are more cost-effective per item than booking separate collections, call us with your list and we'll work out the most efficient route.

This is a common Gumtree arrangement. If you've agreed cash-on-collection with the seller, we can facilitate this in two ways: you transfer the agreed cash amount to us, and we pay the seller on collection; or you pay the seller directly via bank transfer before we arrive, and we collect with the seller's confirmation.
